For the love of beauty!

Those of you who have read past reviews of mine on fragrance know that I'm not a fan of super-sweet fruity scents. As such, I was pleasantly surprised with Gratitude. Gratitude is a lovely blend of pure grapefruit, vanilla and jojoba oils. That's all there is to it. The aroma is divine. Not at all too sweet, yet vibrantly fragrant of grapefruit with the richness of vanilla. This fragrance denotes "happiness" on first whiff. This is a fragrance that is also easily layered with other fragrances to create your own special blend. I love to do that. I'll often take two, sometimes even three fragrances and spritz/apply them for a totally unique scent all my own. However, that's not to say Gratitude can't be worn alone - it is deliciously fragrant all on its own.

Those who like LaVanila's Grapefruit-Vanilla will find this equally as appealing yet very different in scent. This is a decidedly stronger citrus smell than the former. I adore being able to lavish my skin with pure essential oils, no alcohol, no impurities. As Zorica will tell you, since it doesn't have the alcohol, you may want to apply it more often as the scent won't last as long on the skin as those fragrances with alcohol content. No problem here - it's a treat to apply. At $50 a bottle, it's a wonderful value for fresh, pure, natural ingredients. I love it!

Zorica, thank you for Gratitude... xo

Aromatherapy has therapeutic impact for fighting morning sickness. It is said that wearing certain scents on the wrist or other pressure points can help satiate the feeling of queasiness, light-headedness, dizzying and nausea.

Personally, essential oils like lavender, chamomile and jasmine were my go to scents to wear on my wrists when I was expecting. Whenever, I would feel squeezy, I’d put my wrist to my nose and inhale deeply.  That was great at work during the early months when I still was concealing my pregnancy. It saved me loads of trips to the restroom or giving myself away because I would be so green.

The makers of Vera Essence sent me a vial of its 100% Pure Perfume to check out and I must say it did remind me of a combination of the oils I used to use and rely on to stay on balance during my first trimester of pregnancy.

The sample I received came in a tube with a roll on ball which made it easy to apply to the wrist and was small enough to fit in my purse or carry in a pocket. The oil is chemical-, toxin-, gluten-, alcohol- and animal cruelty-free and is handcrafted by Zorica in Malibu, California.

Vera Essence features essential oils that together produce a nearly addicting elixir that invigorates your senses like roses sources from Bulgaria, lavender sourced from France, and rose geranium sourced from Egypt. Rose sourced from Bulgaria is the highest-quality rose essential oil available in the world today. 65,000 petals are used to produce one single drop of this luxurious oil A simple whiff is enough to discern the authenticity of Vera Essence‘s unprecedented purity.

The fragrance blend invigorates the senses but in a good way because they are so overpowering that they mask any food being cooked in the office microwave or waffling down to your office from a co-worker’s afternoon snack that could send you off to visit the porcelain Gods!

If you’re experiencing extreme morning sickness, whether in your first trimester or later months, consider giving Vera Essence or some other sort of essential oil or blend a try.

Let us know if it works for you too!

Zorica of Malibu ranks #1 on The Ron and Lisa Blog

Let’s face it – synthetic perfume and fragrance… STINK! When you discover the sinister chemicals lurking behind these words, you’ll realize they should more appropriately be named Eau de Nausea or Toxic Toilette! The EPA found the following health problems associated with synthetic fragrance exposure: asthma, fatigue, eye irritation, sinusitis, skin problems, kidney and liver damage, immune system damage, nausea, blood pressure change (drop or rise), cancer, and even death due to respiratory failure. More than 95% of the chemicals used in fragrances are neurotoxic and derived from petroleum (um, ew!). These have been known to be harmful to the brain and nervous system. The term “fragrance,” “fragrance oil,” “perfume oil,” or “parfum” may be masking the presence of phthalates which are often used to disperse fragrance in perfumes (read: Shhhh! The Fragrance Industry: SECRETS Revealed).

Environmental Working Group (EWG) researchers found more than 75% of products with the ingredient “fragrance” contained phthalates (THAL ates) which have been shown to reduce sperm counts, linked to thyroid and reproductive disorders, liver and breast cancer. These may be listed as DBP (di-n-butyl phthalate) or DEP (diethyl phthalate) on the ingredients label.

So, what’s a stinky gal to do? Go au naturel of course! Thanks to these seven brands who know that you really can have it all by using the power of plants; sans the nasty chemicals.

Beauty products to use throughout your pregnancy. (Photo: Getty Images)

Products that work for a heightened sense of smell: When you’re pregnant, your sense of smell is enhanced (especially toward your husband’s morning breath, but that’s a different story). Everyday scents can add to your nausea, or cause dizziness or headaches. Not to mention a possible link between perfume use and birth defects in the first trimester. (In I.V.F., they ask you not to wear any perfume or deodorant during an embryo transfer). One good all-natural perfume is Vera Essence, free of chemicals, toxins, petrochemicals, solvents, alcohol and glutens. I liked their Gratitude Pure Perfume, which had a hint of vanilla sweetness (and better smelling than my morning husband).
